Ode to Asparagus

Last night our friend Jason brought back some asparagus for us from Washington. I can't tell you how happy this made me! I LOVE Asparagus! I didn't discover it until my in-laws forced me to try it a few years back and thank goodness they did. So tonight I was eating some with dinner and it inspired me to write a poem :) Enjoy my Ode To Asparagus!

Long, thin and green

Like fingers tickling my tongue
I find it very mean
To have never been served it when I was young

This vegetable I crave
For it is not like any other
Steamed is my fave
With lots of salt and lots of butter

Every year I wait
For this crop to sprout its head
This May it was late
It came to me in June instead

But now I'm complete
Having eaten the best of this
Wonderful, flavorful
Washington Asparagus!

Thank You, Thank You.. I know, I'm brilliant

Okay, so I totally share your love of asparagus and I just discovered the best recipe for it! I drizzle it with olive oil and sprinkle grill seasoning on them and bake in the oven for 20 min. YUMMERS!

We were served it when we were young... I have a memory of sitting at the table until 8:00 refusing to eat mine... I finally put it between 2 slices of bread and some ketchup... it made me throw up... mom let me leave the table after that! I do love it now though!

No it was asparagus. I did the sit at the table until 8 thing too. Like it now though, not so much that I'd write a poem about though. :) That was pretty good Loll!

asparagus is pretty darn good. You ought to try it cooked on the BBQ with olive oil and seasoning salt, mmmmmmm my mouth is watering now!!
