Have you ever dreamed you could just go through your house and get rid of everything except the bare necessities? Have nothing on your countertops, neat and tidy drawers, an almost empty garage.
I do. I day dream about it all the time.
Could I live just fine with two pairs of pants a few shirts, ONE pair of pajamas? Do I need five mixing spoons, five mixing bowls, twenty-five cutting knives, etc etc...? The answer is no. But how do you get rid of stuff that is GOOD STUFF? And how do you prevent your husband from freaking out when you give away three pairs of ugly shoes he bought on his mission?
Think of all the time you'd save cleaning and emptying a dishwasher if you just hand washed the 4 cups, bowls, plates you used? How many less loads of laundry if you and your kids had only a few sets of clothes. How many less toys to clean up at the end of the day. How many less cupboards and bins filled with junk that you probably only use once a year?
These are the things I think about when I sit and stare at my house.

This is my dream too!
Oh, I am right there with you. My closet for one is full of 10 year old clothing or shoes that I just might wear one day when in reality it hasn't been touched for 5 of those 10 years. I must be a pack rat to some degree, which I swore I never would be.
haha i loved the shoes part. i just wiat until we move..and a box or two just magically disappears.
i fess up eventually..but by then, i can just say, well we moved a year ago and youre just now looking for them.....so...
everytime we move i purge. and it feels so good.
everytime i buy a new piece of clothing, i give one away..only allowmyself however amny hangers i ahve now, so if i get something new, something has to go! (usually hadned down to my sisters, or DI)
same with kitchen utensils..i get my little vase thingy, and that's it. no more drawers filled wtih mixing spoons, and mismatched measuring cups! freeedomm!
just do it.
donate it all.

I got rid of 5 bags of stuff today!!!! It felt so good!
Moving always helps us get rid of stuff, and being in the military, we move often. We ended up moving into a smaller home this month, and we are down to the bare bones. I find that giving away stuff feels so much better then throwing it away, or at least selling it on Craigslist. This last move, I learned NOT to let my husband finish packing up our home. Once he got the family and I settled in Washington, he put over a thousand dollars worth of our belongings next to a dumpster instead of selling them. He was too tired to haul them, and had no room in our storage unit. ALL my baby stuff, treadmill, kids NEW toys, the list goes on. GRRR! I'm glad to not have a lot of that stuff, but in this case, I would have SOLD it. You can tell I'm still mad. May take a while to get over it. :) Good luck! Purging does feel good though.
