I finally decided to try my hand at sewing so I headed to the library and found a "How To" book on sewing. I opened my brand new sewing machine and spent about a half hour going through all the instructions on how to fill the bobbin thing, thread a needle, etc.. For my first project I decided to make a picnic blanket to keep in the back of our car. I wanted a blanket that was water-resistant on the bottom but soft on top (and that grass didn't stick to). I found the cheapest material I could in WalMart's $1.00 bin in case it ended disastrously.
Well once I had gotten home I realized I didn't buy any batting for the blanket so I creatively cut up some old towels we had around and sewed them together to use as batting! Long story short, it was so hard to sew with such heavy material and the lines were incredibly crooked but now we have a picnic blanket to use all summer!

Good for you. I am clueless when it comes to sewing. I am not sure how many times my mom tried to teach me and I just thought I wouldn't neet it. Now I am wishing I would've paid attention:)
I think it looks good from the pictures:) Let me know if you want to make a baby blanket. I love sewing and i wouldn't mind helping you out. I made the boys blankets and a quilt for Colby's class last semester and Noah Halloween outfit this last year. Im always free. We could make a day of it Colby and Phil could play with Noah and we could start a great blanket for your little boy:) It would be fun.
Can I come to the sewing lesson, too? I think the blanket turned out great.
holly you are so cute!! your blanket looks awesome..go you!!
That was so creative to use towels! Does it work for real? I ditto Joy; I wanna go to that sewing class. Do you think it matters if I don't have my own sewing machine?
Holly, good work It take guts to jump into sewing. you will be a pro in no time. And your little boy wot notice if his blankies have crooked seams.
